Your Study Appointment

You will begin your Study Appointment at the Harry Nursten Building / Hugh Sinclair Unit, where you will be relieved of your samples and will have some body composition measures taken by one of our researchers. This includes your height, weight, body fat percentage, readings of your blood pressure, as well as a small blood sample.

Following this, we will ask you to head over to the Harry Pitt Building / School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences. This is where your MRI scan and computer tasks will take place, and it is where your Study Appointment will end.

Please note that as there is a lake in the middle of our campus, it unfortunately is not possible to get from the Harry Nursten Building to the Harry Pitt Building by driving through campus. Therefore if you have come by car, you will have to exit and re-enter the University of Reading campus. Alternatively, if you are walking, you can walk through campus to get from one building to the other.

We have provided links that give you a precise area to head to for each building and car park. The QR codes also lead you to this information.

Getting to the Harry Nursten Building/Hugh Sinclair Unit

The Hugh Sinclair Unit is based in the Harry Nursten Building, which has been marked on the map (building 47). It is a white building and has steps leading down into the entrance. The entrance to the building has been marked with the flag symbol on the close-up of the map.

Please proceed down the steps, through the double front doors, and follow signs to the 2nd floor. We are located on the 2nd floor, through the double doors in the corridor to the left of the lift labelled "Hugh Sinclair Unit". When you reach the Hugh Sinclair Unit, there is a visitor's doorbell on a table to your left in the corridor. Please ring the doorbell and wait to be attended.

If you are driving, it is most convenient to use the Pepper Lane entrance. If using a navigation system, please use postcode RG6 6UR. When you enter the university from the Pepper Lane entrance, you will arrive at a mini roundabout. Take the first exit left here, drive over the pedestrian crossing, and take a right almost immediately. You will pass Car Park 8 on your left. Continue down this road and follow the road around a sharp bend. Pass the Chaplaincy on your left and follow the road until you come to Car Park 10 on your right. Take a right into Car Park 10.

You may park in Car Park 10, where there are spaces reserved for study volunteers. If you did not receive a parking permit with your sample kit, we will provide you with one.

Getting from the Harry Nursten Building/Hugh Sinclair Unit to the Harry Pitt Building/School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences

The Harry Pitt Building / School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences, which has been marked on the map (building 56), is where we will ask you to head to for your MRI scan and computer tasks. The entrance of the building into the reception area has been marked with the flag symbol on the close-up of the map.

This is approximately a 5-10 minute walk from the Harry Nursten Building / Hugh Sinclair Unit where you begin your study appointment. However, if you are driving, we understand if you would prefer to drive from one building to the other to be able to home straight home from there. As there is no direct route from one building to the other within campus, we ask you to please follow these instructions:
